Close up, a museum's, theatre's or gallery's building lights up. From far away only the best-known are named, and artworks show only near the camera. The clock draws rings of 10, 20 and 30 minutes on foot around a searched address or the view's centre, straight lines at 4.5 km/h, so indicative: a real walk runs longer.","about.warm.1":"The clock has three stops. In 2000 and 2005 the blocks show their main heating by the city's own rule, from the Umweltatlas's heating maps ( and blocks, with each carrier's share on hover). In 2022 each census cell shows the most common heating of its buildings with homes. The heating maps measure floor area per block and the census counts buildings per 100 m cell, so the legend says to compare the pictures, not the numbers. Oil was the main heating of blocks in 2000 and in 2005, gas of and , coal of and .","about.warm.2":"In 2022, cells (%) are grey hatched, all their counts withheld or zero, and a cell whose published counts hold less than half its buildings is hatched. Rings mark the large heat and power plants of each time ( in 2000, in 2004, in 2020) with the fuels they burned. Hard coal was % of their fuel in 2000 and % in 2004. The amounts and the CO2 figures aren't shown, because no page states their unit or year. No heating map exists as data for 1994, so the clock starts in 2000.","about.year":"How a building gets its year","about.year.1":"The sources are tried in turn, from exact years to estimates. An estimate reads as one: a period or a decade (“1950s, estimated”), with a year only where the aerial photos give one within a few years (“c. 2014”).","about.year.5":"The 2022 census counts buildings with homes by construction period in every 1 km and 100 m square but doesn't say which is which. So the buildings with homes in each 1 km square share out its counts, guided by the 100 m squares' counts, the 1992/93 map, the aerial photos and each building's form.
